Free (or Cheap) Activities for Kids

1. Home Depot Kids Workshop -- FREE

The first Saturday of every month, Home Depot offers a Kids Workshop. The site says for kids ages 5-12. But we've taken our younger son there since he was a year and half. The kids get an apron, a craft, a certificate, and pin for that month's activity. Parents must register online to ensure their child gets a craft. Home Depot has a picture of the upcoming activity on their site. Depending on which one you go to, Home Depot may offer more. The one we went to in Phoenix, AZ had face painting and snow cones. The one we've gone to in Pittsburgh had Santa and cookies. My kids love it! Great activity for rainy/snowy Saturdays.

2. Lowe's Build & Grow -- FREE

Similar to Home Depot's workshop, Lowe's also offers a kids workshop. They hold their workshop usually on the second Saturday of each month. Kids get an apron, a craft, a certificate, and an iron-on patch for that's month's activity. Parents must register online. Also different stores can do different things, as well. One store we went to in Pittsburgh, they had juice boxes and fruit snacks. But again, something creative with the kids, especially when it's ugly weather out.

3. Michael's Kids Club -- $2/Kid

Michael's Craft Store offers a different craft every Saturday. The craft is $2/kid. Parents can either create an account on Michael's website and register and pay online or they can pay at the store. We just tried this one today (January 11, 2014). It was fun for the kids. Be sure to print your receipt , if you pay online. Our boys painted a mini owl picture. We picked up a store pamphlet and the boys want to go back to do another craft.
